CDCCW Spring Luncheon Sunday, May 22, 2016

CDCCW Spring Luncheon - Sunday, May 22, 2016 - We had an amazing & informative afternoon with an urgent call to prayer & action. We had two presenters. Monique Jackson, former student athlete at the university of Mississippi and graduate of the university of Tennessee at Martin in criminal justice. Monique is 23 years old and an intern with the District attorney's victim witness assistance program at the Columbus consolidated government. Monique and her team of interns from Columbus High gave us a brief look at the Classic symptoms of an abusive relationship. How this young woman lost all; Job, School, Car, Friends, her own Apartment, Family, and Church…

Bobbie Starr, Victim advocate for sexual assault support center of Columbus for almost 20 years. Prevention and Awareness coordinator for sexual assault support center from 2009-2010. B.S. In Sociology with concentration on Crime, Deviance & Society. Currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Public Administration and the team lead for Set Free Columbus. Gave us a poignant presentation on Domestic Minor Sex Human Trafficking. She informed us that the 2nd Largest Criminal Enterprise the statics and all the dangers on how our children are trapped into this horrific modern day Slavery. (330,000) It is doleful to listen to all the risk factor and how easily children can be trapped. 1/3 of runaways are approached by traffickers within the 1st 48 hours of leaving home. The average age a child first falls victim to trafficking is 12 – 14. We are indeed left with a lot to ponder.

We had a delicious lunch from Country BBQ. Raffled three items for Water for Life and raised approximately $43. The Spanish CCW “Las Damas Catolicas” also had their long awaited raffle of a beautiful wall Rosary made in Peru. Our main charity for this luncheon was Bibles for the Prison Ministry. We collected over 35 bibles in English and 30 Spanish bibles for the prison ministry. We are still accepting donations of bibles and are in need for bibles in French. We have numerous detainees that speak French only. Thank you all for your generosity.
